Are you an experienced tax preparer who enjoys solving problems, working with small business owners, and producing accurate, high-quality tax returns?
Join Profitable Painter CPA PLLC, a fast-growing, tech-enabled, remote-first CPA firm that exclusively serves painting contractors across the U.S. and Canada. Our mission is simple: guide painting contractors to financial prosperity.
We’re looking for a seasoned Tax Preparer who loves tax preparation, pays close attention to the details, embraces technology, and wants the stability of a year-round position with a collaborative CPA firm.
You’ll work closely with our Tax Manager and tax reviewers to prepare individual and business tax returns, communicate with clients, resolve routine tax questions, and keep returns moving efficiently through our paperless tax workflow.
Prepare accurate and timely federal and state individual and business tax returns, including:
Individual returns (Form 1040), including Schedules C, E, and D/Form 8949
Rental property and investment reporting
Partnership returns (Form 1065)
S Corporation returns (Form 1120S)
C Corporation returns (Form 1120)
Straightforward multi-state individual and business returns
K-1 reporting from partnerships, S corporations, and trusts
Common individual tax credits and deductions
Basic Section 199A/QBI calculations
Depreciation, Section 179, and bonus depreciation
Basic Schedule M-1 and M-2 reconciliations
Review your own work for completeness, accuracy, and internal consistency before submitting returns for reviewer sign-off.
Identify potential issues involving shareholder or partner basis, multi-state taxation, or other areas requiring reviewer or Tax Manager involvement.
Research routine tax questions independently using firm resources, recognize when an issue should be escalated, and collaborate with the reviewer or Tax Manager on more complex or unusual tax matters.
Communicate directly with clients regarding tax questions, missing information, and outstanding documents.
Document client communication and maintain accurate workflow status updates within TaxDome.
Collaborate with tax reviewers and the Tax Manager to resolve questions and complete returns efficiently.
Stay current on federal and state tax law changes and participate in regular tax department meetings and training.
Look for opportunities to improve the efficiency and quality of our tax preparation process.

Year-Round: This is not just a seasonal tax position. Join a growing firm with stable, ongoing work throughout the year.
Modern Tech Stack: Work in a streamlined, paperless environment using Drake Tax, TaxDome, Juno, Verito, Slack, Notion, and other technology designed to make tax preparation more efficient.
Collaborative Tax Team: Work closely with experienced reviewers and our Tax Manager rather than being left to figure everything out on your own.
Professional Growth: Receive ongoing feedback, training, and opportunities to strengthen your technical tax knowledge.
Core Values – A.C.E.:
Accountability: Do what you say you’ll do.
Collaboration: We win as a team.
Excellence: Always push for better—for yourself and our clients.
Mission-Driven: Help hardworking painting contractors thrive financially and build stronger businesses.
Supportive Team: We’re organized, forward-thinking, technology-focused, and genuinely care about providing an exceptional experience for our clients and teammates.
