Reporting to the VP Engineering, we are looking for a talented data engineer to lead our Data engineering discipline. This is a senior/staff level position where the ideal candidate will draw on their previous experience, theoretical and practical technical skills, and soft skills to help Hivestack modernize multiple areas of its data pipeline.

Role and Responsibilities of a Data Discipline Lead:

  • Creating and maintaining the long term data architecture roadmap

  • Promoting technical best practices throughout the organization

  • Overseeing technological choices and implementation of data systems

What is our technology stack? 

  • Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL (PostGIS), Redis, DynamoDB, Redshift, Clickhouse, S3

  • Data/Other: Spark/Scala, Python, SQL, Iceberg, Pandas, Scikit, Tableau, Redash, Quicksight, DuckDB, Snowflake

  • Other tiers: Python/aiohttp, Go/gin, Javascript/VueJS, Swift,

  • Test Frameworks: behave & Cypress

  • Devops: CircleCI, Terraform

  • Cloud: AWS: Fargate, EMR, Lambdas

What you’ll need to perform in this job:

  • 5+ years of experience in a related field

  • Have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent

  • Excellent Computer Science fundamentals with regards to data structures, algorithms, time complexity, etc.

  • Experience designing and delivering data architectures including big-data systems, data pipelines, dashboard and reporting engines

  • Thorough understanding and work experience with Java/Scala, Spark, Python

  • Strong experience, and opinions, about multiple database families (transactional, raw data lakes, queues, analytical) and concrete products in each

  • Experience with data analytics using a variety of languages and tools: SQL, pandas, Scikit as well as multiple BI  and visualization tools

  • Experience owning engineering roadmaps and leading engineering teams

  • Strong understanding of the AWS cloud platform and its related services, such as EMR, RDS, Kinesis Streams

  • Ability to work independently and make use of your time effectively
