Staff Engineer — Throxy
About Throxy
throxy is a small applied research lab working on the future of sales. The next $1T company will be a software company masquerading as a services firm.
We are a group of researchers, engineers, and technologists in London inventing at the edge of what's useful and possible.
At throxy, we are building agents that generate sales pipeline for our customers.
If you're interested in the types of problems we're working on, we'd love to hear from you.
We're a small, talent dense team moving extremely fast. Our engineers ship to production daily, talk directly to customers, and own problems end-to-end.
The Role
As a Staff Engineer, you'll be one of the most senior ICs on the team. You won't be handed tickets, you'll be handed problem spaces and trusted to figure out the right thing to build, then build it.
You'll set technical direction across multiple product surfaces, make the architectural calls that the next 50 engineers will live with, and stay hands-on in the code while doing it.
This is a player-coach role. ~70% IC, ~30% leverage (design docs, reviews, mentoring, unblocking).
What You'll Do
- Own ambiguous, cross-cutting problems end-to-end — from "this is slow / broken / missing" to shipped and measured
- Design the systems behind our AI agents, LLM evaluations, data pipelines, and provider waterfalls
- Set technical standards for the codebase
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers; raise the bar through code review and design review
- Partner directly with the founders and Head of Engineering on roadmap and technical strategy
- Talk to customers, watch them use the product, and turn that into shipped improvements within days
What We're Looking For
-
6+ years of production software engineering experience (or equivalent scope) at a high-velocity company
- Deep expertise in TypeScript and modern web infra, we run Next.js (App Router), Trigger.dev, Postgres/Drizzle
- Strong systems thinking: you've designed distributed systems, data pipelines, or large-scale background job infrastructure that actually held up
- Comfort with LLM-based systems, prompt design, evaluations, agentic workflows, structured outputs. You don't need to have built foundation models, but you've shipped real LLM features and know where they break
- Track record of going from zero → one on ambiguous problems without a PM holding your hand
- Strong written communication, you can write a design doc that aligns a room
- Bias to action. You'd rather ship a working v1 today than a perfect v1 next month
Why Throxy
-
Real ownership, small team, big surface area, your fingerprints will be everywhere
-
Senior bar, everyone you work with will sharpen you
-
AI-native from day one, we're not retrofitting AI onto a legacy product
-
Speed, design doc on Monday, in production by Friday, in front of customers by next week
