New York or Nowhere (NYON) is hiring a Senior Graphic Designer (Apparel) — a key creative role responsible for shaping the visual identity of our product through original, compelling graphic design.

Many brands are inspired by New York. Few are synonymous with it. NYON has established itself as one of the most visible and preeminent brands to emerge from NYC over the past 10 years. With a flagship retail store in Nolita, collaborations with icons like SNL and the New York Yankees, NYON is a rare combination of commercially successful and culturally resonant.

We’re looking for a highly conceptual thinker and skilled executor who can translate brand storytelling into graphics that live on garments, prints, accessories, and beyond. This role sits at the intersection of design, product, and culture, helping define how the brand shows up through what we make.

THE ROLE

You will lead the development of apparel graphics from concept through execution, shaping seasonal collections and elevating the brand’s visual language across categories. You think in ideas first, not just outputs. You understand how something looks on a screen is different from how it lives on a garment and you design accordingly.

You have a strong point of view, but you’re equally grounded in what works commercially. You know how to push the work forward without losing sight of the product.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Concept and design original, premium apparel graphics from ideation through production-ready execution • Develop seasonal graphic stories that align with brand strategy and product direction • Create custom typography, lettering, and illustration that feels distinct, elevated, and ownable to NYON • Lead graphic direction for capsules, collaborations, and special projects • Collaborate closely with Design, Merchandising, and Production to ensure work is both creatively strong and technically feasible • Prepare production-ready artwork, including color separations, placements, and detailed specs • Present creative work clearly and confidently to internal stakeholders • Maintain brand consistency while evolving and pushing the visual language forward

WHAT YOU BRING

• 6–10+ years of graphic design experience, with a strong focus on apparel • A portfolio that demonstrates original thinking, strong taste, and executional excellence in apparel graphics • Experience designing for partnership collections or brand collaborations • Deep understanding of typography, composition, proportion, and visual hierarchy • Strong knowledge of garment decoration techniques (screen printing, embroidery, appliqué, etc.) • Ability to balance creative ambition with commercial viability • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop required) • Experience working within seasonal calendars and fast-paced timelines • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate creative decisions
