What is Spade?

Spade is the next generation of fintech infrastructure. We’re building a financial data enrichment API purpose built to empower our customers to uncover the truth hidden within their transaction data. We help our customers underwrite, detect fraud, build better banking infrastructure and get a unique understanding of their end customers' spending habits.

We’re a fast growing, seed stage, remote friendly company backed by industry experts and top tier investors (including Y-Combinator, Gradient Ventures, and more to be announced soon!). We’re live with >15 customers, and process millions of transactions a month.

What will you be doing?

We're looking for an experienced engineering manager who is energized by building a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative engineering culture. In this role, you will lay the foundation for our growing team, putting in place the systems and processes needed to level up our engineering organization. You will:

• Manage, mentor, and develop a team of incredible engineers, building a high-performing, inclusive, and empathetic culture 
• Create engineering standards, systems, and processes to help achieve company goals 
• Identify headcount goals and and collaborate with the recruiting team to identify and hire diverse, excellent engineering talent
• Set clear goals, identify and remove roadblocks, and measure impact of the engineering organization
• Collaborate with our CTO and CEO on long-term product and technical strategy while contributing to the planning process and and managing a team to execute on short term objectives
• Work alongside our CTO to evaluate the technical tradeoffs of major decisions and be a strong technical leader

They create structure from ambiguity, can wear a lot of hats, and are excited about taking on new and complex technical challenges. 

What experience, skills, and qualifications are necessary? 

We're hiring for a variety of levels and positions, and are especially interested in candidates that have:

• 6+ years experience in backend engineering, including 3+ years of engineering management experience
• Passion for and strength in people management, particularly recruiting and developing technical talent
• Experience in early or growth stage startups 
• Experience with some / all of the following: Python and SQL, search and data matching, ML & NLP, cloud infrastructure (AWS), API design, data cleaning, DevOps
• A desire to focus on customer needs and solve pressing problems
• Nice to have: B2B and/or fintech experience

Salary Range:

• At Spade, we view total compensation as consisting of salary + equity + benefits. We recruit motivated and high performing talent, and work to compensate people in line with the value they bring to our team. 
• We aim to pay fairly and competitively, and consider a number of factors in developing compensation offers. These factors include years and breadth of experience, interview performance, market dynamics, and internal equity. 
• The anticipated cash salary range for this role is $185,000-$215,000, with an equity range of 0.6-0.8%.
