This is a dream job for a talented, creative mind with an inherent sense of marketing and communication. You’ll help us shape our brand and make decisions that will directly impact our growth. If you're passionate about creative communication, design and bikes, this position is your destiny, Ornot.
Dear future creative,
Are you ready to work with a small team where you can present an idea and then make it come to life quickly?
Do you wish that your job wasn't corporate?
Are you interested in building actual things along with digital things and then figuring out a fun way to tell people about these things?
Can you construct a sentence that doesn't use "things" 3 times?
Do you ride bikes? (“Yes” is the correct answer)
Do you ever see interesting products, but think - “wow, their messaging / design / story, is so, off”?
If you've always wanted creative freedom and ownership over projects and have proven experience with marketing and design, this might be a perfect opportunity for you.
WHO IS ORNOT?
We are a small but mighty cycling apparel company based in San Francisco with most of our clothing production right here in California. Actually, if you don't know who we are yet, you should probably cruise our website and IG feed.
OPPORTUNITY
Join us and work as a full-time marketing creative lead, heading up 1 of 2 arms of our business which are defined by “making things” and “selling things”. You’ll have the unique opportunity to drive the “selling things” portion of our business, creating everything from an annual marketing calendar with built in sales peaks, to owned sales channel strategies, to product copy and merchandising. You’ll be in a unique position to jump in and extend current marketing initiatives as well as identify areas for growth. The sky is the limit, and there are a lot of fun areas that we have yet to really explore.
SKILLS
We are looking for:
Marketing and communication. You've had at least 4 years of professional marketing/design experience and have honed your craft. You can iterate, see the entire picture, and articulate the choices made in your projects.
You must be able to write in our brand’s tone and voice. Sometimes it’s sarcastic and often “less is more”. You should have a sense of where that balance lies.
Self starter and finisher. It sounds cliche, but you will be given a long rope, with that rope comes responsibility. The hardest part of a project can be that last 5%, you should pride yourself on buttoning everything up, and then making sure that the buttons are indeed buttoned correctly.
Details are very important. Attention to detail should be part of your process.
Tech Savvy. Because it's 2024 you should be comfortable with email marketing, Shopify, Meta ads, Slack (although face to face is how we work), and social media.
KPIs and Analytics. Attribution on different platforms can tell different stories. Often there is some triangulation that needs to be done in order to see what’s working and what isn’t. You should have a level headed approach to decoding this without becoming too obsessed.
Design sense. You should be able to give constructive creative direction.
Bike rides! You should be able to do these. We often have some of our best ideas on "work rides".
Extra credit - There are many areas for possible extra credit. Assume that you can achieve extra credit points somehow - don’t be shy.
FINAL WORDS
This job isn't for everyone, we're looking for a special person with the combination of design talent and marketing skills.
We're based in San Francisco and prefer a local candidate. We don't have Sr. or Jr. positions in our small company. We all work together to get things done and we do this in person at our office IRL. If you're not local, but you think this job was made exactly for you, we would still like to hear from you.
To apply, fill out the form at this link and be sure to include the phrase "banana bread" somewhere in your submission.
Thanks for making it this far, writing job postings is not my favorite activity, I'd rather be riding.
