Polaron is an Imperial College London spinout using generative AI to bridge the gap between process (how materials are made) and performance (how materials behave). We’re building a platform that enables materials designers to use these state-of-the-art AI techniques in their day-to-day work. We’re a small, well-funded team, and have just won the UK Government’s inaugural Manchester Prize [2] for AI innovation and public good.
As a Software Engineer at Polaron, projects on our roadmap you could work on include:
- Scaling our canvas-based frontend to handle images with greater than 10k x 10k pixel resolution.
- Intelligently autoscaling our GPU cluster in response to customer demand.
- Building a public-facing API, in addition to our web-based interface.
As a Machine Learning Engineer at Polaron, projects on our roadmap you could work on include:
- Optimising efficiency and robustness of our existing algorithms for material characterisation, exploration and optimisation;
- Adapting cutting edge machine learning methods for material science applications.
Tech Stack: TypeScript (React / Next.js / Express / Prisma), Python (PyTorch), PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform.
