✨ About Loula

We're building the Headway for birth & postpartum doulas. Loula's platform and provider network supports doulas by simplifying the process of accepting insurance, specifically Medicaid. Doulas typically operate outside of the traditional healthcare system and face enormous administrative challenges when accepting health insurance. Loula is revolutionizing the birth and postpartum care industry by making doula care more accessible to the families who need it the most. Loula handles all doula credentialing, contracting, and revenue cycle management, allowing them to focus on doing what they do best -- providing excellent care to families.

💼 The Role

We are looking for a mission-driven, full-stack software engineer with 4+ years of professional experience to join Loula as a full-time founding engineer. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about their work making a positive impact and who's excited about having autonomy and ownership at an early-stage startup. As a founding engineer, you will not only drive the product forward but also help shape Loula's culture and future.

🚀 What You'll Do

  • Implement software architecture: Design and develop the foundational architecture of Loula's software systems.
  • Lead product development: Drive the development of Loula’s platform, including front-end and back-end components.
  • Define the product roadmap: Collaborate closely with the founding team and Loula customers to draft, develop, and refine a robust product roadmap.
  • Talk to customers: Conduct user interviews, shadow users, and implement feedback to continuously improve the product.
  • Technical Leadership: Take ownership of the tech stack and ensure the systems are simple, extensible, and scalable.

👼🏾 Why Loula?

  • Mission-Driven Work: Make a real difference in the lives of families and birth workers by making doula care more accessible.
  • Ownership and Impact: Be a foundational part of a super early-stage company, with significant ownership and the opportunity to shape Loula’s direction and culture.
  • Growth & Development Opportunities: As Loula expands across the United States and into adjacent specialties like lactation consultants and midwives, you will have the opportunity to advance internally, take on different roles, and move into leadership positions.

🌱 You are

  • An experience full-stack software engineer. Bonus points if you've worked in startups, worked on early-stage products through launch, led a technical team, and/or worked in digital health before.
  • Energized by a user-centric product development approach. You love talking to customers to understand their needs, how they think, and how they use the product to inform the the product roadmap.
  • Independent and proactive. You are able to work independently and without explicit direction to make well-informed decisions and deploy key projects without sacrificing quality.
  • Mission driven. Working with health insurance isn't the most glamorous path, but you are deeply driven by our mission to improve health outcomes for new families by empowering the professionals who care for them. You bring an ownership mentality, collaborative approach, and positivity and optimism to the work.

💻 Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vercel
  • Backend: TypeScript

  • Hosting provider: AWS, Aptible

💰 Compensation & Benefits

  • Covered Health Insurance
