Key Responsibilities

As a Distributed Data Systems Engineer, you will be a founding member of the Eventual team with primary responsibilities around driving the development of Daft (https://www.getdaft.io/).

Some projects that you can expect to work on include:

• Developing new Daft Rust kernels from custom date/time arithmetic to complex NLP functionality for text processing
• Query optimization to optimize Daft execution
• Distributed observability tooling to monitor and help users understand Daft query performance
• Build our developer community through talks, blog-posts and tutorials

We are a young startup - so be prepared to wear many hats such as tinkering with infrastructure, talking to customers and participating heavily in the core design process of our product!

What we look for

The ideal candidate should have a strong software engineering background. We do not expect that candidates must have prior experience building distributed data systems, but we hope that you are passionate and intellectually curious to learn more!

Our ideal candidate should have:

• Up to 3 years of full-time work experience
• Works well in small focused teams with fast iterations and lots of autonomy

Nice to haves:

• Strong fundamentals in systems programming (C++, Rust etc) and Linux
• Practical hands-on experience with using or building data science/ML/engineering technologies (e.g. Pandas, Spark, SQL, Pytorch)
• Experience with cloud technologies (AWS S3, Containerization, Kubernetes etc)
