At Simplify, we're rethinking the way people discover and apply to opportunities by building a common applications for jobs. We started Simplify to democratize access to recruiting, no matter what your background is, where you live or what school you attended, and to make recruiting, simple, transparent and fair. We’re taking a candidate-first approach to recruiting (something that’s never been done before) that we think will allow us to become the largest recruiting platform for the tech industry within 5-years. Hundreds of thousands of users trust Simplify to power their recruiting process, and our platform has facilitated over 5mil+ job applications in the last year. Simplify recently raised a new round of funding led by Craft Ventures with participation from all-star angels (TBA), and was part of YCombinator's Winter 2021 batch.

We are looking for a founding engineer, experienced in full-stack (backend-heavy) development, who wants to have an impact on helping people find the job that speaks to them: You will join a well funded, seed-stage startup and get to work very closely together with the founders on how we build and scale the company.

Requirements

• Full-stack expert with 5+ years of software development experience (we don't believe in YOE = talent levels, if you feel qualified, please apply anyways)
• Proficient in React, Next.js, Typescript, FastAPI/Flask, Python
• Experienced in working on a code base at scale and complex backend infrastructures
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and building 3rd party integrations
• Passionate about unlocking equitable access to recruiting and career building, as well as working at an early-stage startup
• Extreme sense of ownership, challenging the status quo, and raising the bar
• Effective collaborator with strong communication skills
• Empathy for users and strong team spirit in a small, fast-moving, and close-knit team

Responsibilities

• Shape engineering culture and values as an early employee
• Own architectural decisions and technical build-out as the company scales
• Build user-facing features and improve performance and reliability of our frontend, and chrome extension
• Improve backend systems and build endpoints for application logic
• Work on Simplify's candidate and recruiter platforms to improve job matching and build meaningful features
• Work on all parts of the system, including backend, dev-ops, database, frontend, and more
• Lead engineering best practices and technology decisions and hire/manage an engineering team.

Desirable

• Prior experience in an early-stage or ed-tech/hr-tech startup is a plus
• Prior experience in data and analytics
