This role is in person at our office in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.

As a small team, we’re all generalists, constantly pick up new challenges, and interface with customers regularly. We’re looking for a founding account executive to create a list of target customers, craft outbound messages, schedule discovery calls, and win deals. You are successful when the rest of the team says, “There are too many customers to onboard!”

What you’ll do

  • Generate demand via outbound. Crisp, tailored emails to prospects have driven the growth of our customer base. You’ll be responsible for personalizing (non-automated) messages that get prospects on the phone.
  • Support our prospects’ evaluation process. We meet prospects who are conducting a build-vs-buy analysis. Help them as they make their purchase decision.
  • Have direct relationships with customers. Whether they’re a CTO, VP of Eng, Head of Finance or Accounts Payable, you’ll be the face of Fern during the sales process. 
  • Go from prospect to customer. Our sales process starts with a discovery call, during which we learn about our customers’ problems. If that goes well, we set up a demo tailored to our customers’ API. After that, we sign the agreements and get to work on implementation. 
  • Carry quota. Get compensated for closing deals and expanding contracts for existing customers.
  • Own our sales pipeline and CRM. You’ll know where a deal is in its lifecycle so that you can set expectations with the engineering team about what work is coming down the line.

What you’ll bring

  • 3+ years in a quota-carrying sales role.
  • 2+ years of experience selling to developers.
  • Experience closing mid-market deals of $25k to $100k ARR.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience giving technical demonstrations. 
  • Willingness to be a polyglot and work across multiple programming languages (e.g., TypeScript, Python, Rust).
  • (Bonus) Experience as a sales engineer, solutions engineer, or forward deployed engineer. 
  • (Bonus) Significant experience working with the OpenAPI specification.
