Job description

Vicarious Surgical, a Waltham, MA startup, is hiring an industrial designer to join our team. This position will be responsible for applying existing design language to current system product development work, defining and refining new part designs, and collaborating with internal and external resources and clinicians.

Vicarious Surgical’s novel approach to surgery uses a combination of proprietary, human-like surgical robots and virtual reality to transport surgeons inside the patient when performing minimally invasive surgery. Our technology was granted Breakthrough Device Designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which provides unique opportunities for our regulatory pathway.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced industrial design professional to join our company at a very exciting time and be a key member of a team that will bring our robotic solution to the market, offering a cost-effective path to improving patient outcomes and increasing the efficiency of surgical procedures for hospitals.

Work with interdisciplinary teams including: nurses and surgeons, human factors and UI/UX, and mechanical, electrical, clinical and software engineering to develop a variety of design solutions
Contribute to all phases of the industrial design process including: brainstorming to tap into the creativity of the design team, developing concepts through hand and digital sketch to rapidly capture the big idea, create CAD databases for prototypes and appearance models,, and create documentation to ensure design intent is maintained in the downstream engineering and manufacturing phases of development
