Job description

* Internship will be for Summer 2022

The Engineering Infrastructure UX Design team is committed to improving the user experience for all 6,000+ engineers at Bloomberg. These engineers play a key role in making the Bloomberg Terminal the leading financial data and analysis platform in the world. To enable them to do their jobs well, our team of designers has been tasked to empower them with the best tools and most efficient workflows.

We have identified an important, unmet need in the engineer’s workflow. We are looking for a UX design intern to use their knowledge of HCI methods to design a new product that will fill this gap. Under the supervision of a mentor, you will own the full user-centered design process and resulting design solution, the mentor will be there merely to guide and support you. At the end of the project you will present the final product to UX, business, and engineering stakeholders and deliver a design solution that is ready for the engineering team to implement.

The role:

You will begin the project by creating a research plan, interviewing users, gathering data, analyzing, and delivering findings on user needs for the product. You will mostly use qualitative methods to gather and analyze data.

Building upon this research, you will move into the design phase, brainstorming, sketching, wireframing, and testing all aspects from concept to final product. You will focus on the overall concepts and architecture as well as every interaction design detail.

Overall, you will have the chance to work side-by-side with researchers and designers in our team, join any research or design team meetings, and work on a project with business implications.

What we're looking for:

Applicants must provide a resume AND portfolio reflecting their UX experience (prior jobs, research projects, or classes). Portfolios explaining overall research and design processes followed along with examples of sketches and wireframes will help us the most.

- In depth knowledge of HCI methods. Usually obtained through pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Human Factors, or a related field
- Ability to brainstorm ideas and deliver quick sketches
- Experience creating clear and crisp wireframes with sound interaction design decisions
- Experience communicating and debating design
- Ability to embrace design feedback positively
- Some proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Miro, Omnigraffle, etc.
- Knowledge of Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is a plus

If this sounds like you, please apply!
