Relay42 is looking for a Backend Team Lead with an excellent ability to manage team performance and people engagement!

Your role:

As a backend team lead, you will manage/coach a team of Java engineers on their performance and personal development during the day-to-day activities. Within the team, you will make sure that your engineers have the capabilities to deliver on their goals in line with our company targets. Together with the other leads, you are working to deliver on our combined product roadmap and to optimize the development cycle, keeping us at our pace of continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities:

Managing team performance and happiness (50%)

  • Facilitate an agile development team (team of 6-8 people)
  • Identify and support growth of talents, provide feedback and look after people’s personal development.
  • Assess individual and team performance, recognize and promote excellent performance, and address underperformance.

Managing the development process (30%)

  • Collaborate with the team and product owner to prioritize the tickets
  • Taking part in the development/scrum meetings to safeguard the progress
  • Collaborate with the other leads to improve on the process

Recruitment (20%)

  • Contribute to Relay42’s growth through interviewing, on-boarding, or other recruitment efforts.


What are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience working in a professional product-driven environment. The candidate has experience with performance management of a team of engineers on their goals, is able to inspire and mentor a team of engineers on their technical and personal development and makes sure that the more long-term roadmap goals are guided and implemented.


  • Work experience as a team lead in similar positions
  • Experience with prioritizing and handling multiple tasks with confidence and maturity
  • A can-do energetic attitude, with strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, able to apply different communication styles
  • Experience with Scrum/Kanban
  • Experience with the Java ecosystem
  • Experience with the full deployment cycle


  • Experience with product organizations
  • Experience in organizations with a multicultural and diverse workforce
  • Experience with highly distributed applications
  • Experience with the Atlassian stack (Jira, Confluence)
  • Experience with AWS (Lambdas, API Gateways, S3, EC2)
