Ambassador Labs is solving interesting problems for cloud native developers in the Kubernetes space. Our mission is to make the complexities of developing, deploying, and operating micro-services on Kubernetes as straightforward as doing so on your own laptop. We believe that a world class user experience is at the core of making this possible and the Documentation Lead is a key strategic partner collaborating with Product, Design, Marketing, and Engineering in this effort.

The Documentation Lead will play a vital role in impacting the lives of developers by simplifying innovation for them. We are looking for a writer with a technical background, someone who loves teaching and communicating about highly technical products in simple and clear ways, and someone who wants to have ownership over an important pillar of our UX. The Documentation Lead will understand and adapt to rapid product and technology developments as we improve our products in close partnership with users.

Our documentation is a critical resource for our customers and our potential customers. It’s more than just an occasional technical reference: it’s a wide collection of productive guides that help them accomplish their goals.
About the RoleYou will dazzle users in producing documentation and learning guides for Ambassador Lab’s growing suite of products, always with a simple and thoughtful approach.

Here’s a bit more insight into what your work life will be like at Ambassador Labs:

    • You pride yourself on digging into the details - you enjoy the process of being hands-on by installing the product, trying out a new feature, and being a power user of our products.
    • You are part writer, part information architect, and part technologist, constantly putting yourself in the shoes of our users because your goal is to make their lives easier through easy to find and easy to understand details.
    • You will work alongside engineers, growth teams, and product leaders to author new content, enhance content written by our engineers and public contributors, and act as the overall gatekeeper to the quality of the user experience of our technical documentation.
    • Develop and maintain principles and style guidelines for product language and tone.
    • Iterate on overall content architecture for quick comprehension and discoverability to ensure there is a seamless transition between our software and marketing campaigns

At our rapid pace, every week will be different, but the one constant is that you will impact our users every day. One day, you may be writing and editing copy for product tours and interactions. The next day, you will develop principles and guidelines for product language and tone. Every day, you will be collaborating with product management, design and engineering teams that teach and resonate with our most beginner and experienced users.

About You

    • You are a polished writer, with samples of work that showcase simplifying and enhancing experiences for technical users.
    • You have 4+ years experience as a technology, documentation, or script writer in the technology space or have a CS degree with a writing portfolio.
    • You are comfortable researching, learning, and grasping complex technical concepts and products
    • Our documentation is maintained in GitHub repositories, so you understand Git processes like branching, merging, and submitting pull requests.
    • You have experience working with command line tools.
    • You want to own an important piece of our user experience and take it to a world class level.
    • Extra (not Required Yet Great Plus): Experience with markdown, Gatsby, and/or Netlify

How to Apply

We are looking forward to hearing from you. We move quickly and decisively. We don’t need to talk to 20 other candidates to make a decision, so if the fit feels right on both sides, we will make it happen! The first step is speaking to our People Person. Our interview process for this Technical Writer is more rigorous than for some of the other roles and includes reviewing writing samples, a process and working style interview, and talking to key team members. We want to hear about real-life experience and successes, especially the products that you’ve shipped and the users that you’ve made happy.

We strongly believe that Ambassador Labs’ success is dependent on hiring a diverse team. Diversity means a broader spectrum of opinions, ways of working and approaches to solving problems; we feel it is critical to helping drive the creativity, innovation and sound decision-making our customers love us for!

This is a demanding application process and a significant career move that’s well worth considering. We appreciate you giving us that consideration, and we promise to give you our full attention in return. Talk to you soon!
