MRI Technologies has partnered with NASA since 1988 to deliver software solutions that meet the complex operational environment of space flight. MRI, a woman-owned technologies and engineering services company, has a need for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer.

Project information:

The NASA Scientific and Technical Information (STI) Program is a critical component in the worldwide activity of scientific and technical aerospace research and development. The NASA STI Program acquires, processes, archives, announces, and disseminates NASA STI and acquires worldwide STI of critical importance to NASA and the Nation.

Collected from U.S. and international sources, STI is organized according to content prior to being added to the NASA STI Repository (NTRS). The STI Repository is a world-class collection of STI that includes over 4.3 million metadata records and over half a million full-text documents.

Hit the ground running:

  • Demonstrates self-sufficiency and eagerness to improve product quality
  • Expert level proficiency with Typescript/Node and/or C#
  • Experience managing and refining large (terabyte-scale) datasets: aggregation, curation, enrichment
  • Experience developing robust, public-facing APIs
  • Demonstrable ability to reason about and communicate complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems
  • Experience with Docker in both a local development and deployment context
  • Experience developing and maintaining robust CI pipelines

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Postgres and Elasticsearch
  • Experience with OpenAPI schema generation
  • Domain knowledge related to the scientific publication process and research access

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Product Manager and fellow engineers (Frontend, UX, etc.) to develop and maintain customer projects
  • Develop a deep understanding of the relevant project domain
  • Propose and implement technical solutions to highly domain-specific problems
  • Continuously advocate for improvements to product and code quality, identify and eliminate technical debt

Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
