Hi, I’m Geoff Woodburn, Director of Engineering at Puppet,

I am looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in building Relay by Puppet. Relay is a new SaaS product focused on allowing users to build automation in minutes instead of days. Like Puppet did with configuration management for conventional infrastructure, Relay is defining a new market for orchestrating and integrating cloud-native APIs, a space which has become notoriously hard to manage due to an explosion of tools and services. Relay can listen for events from popular services that people already use and then trigger workflows to implement cloud compliance, cost management, incident response and other use cases.

As a software engineer on the Relay team, you will be responsible for the development of microservices including but not limited to our workflow engine, event handlers, logging services, and customer-facing APIs. We leverage Kubernetes to manage all of our services. We also use Kubernetes to run customer workloads, including the containers they define in their workflows. We are strong believers in open-source software, and you will have the opportunity to both work on existing open-source Relay projects and to publish new projects.

Our engineering team is small, fast-paced, and has the autonomy to define how we implement cloud native technologies. We are looking for experienced engineers who are passionate about the quality of their work, want the opportunity to make a large impact in a new market, and enjoy pushing the boundaries of what is possible. We will provide a work environment where you have clear deliverables, are empowered to do a great job, and will be recognized for your achievements. You will have the opportunity to work with highly entrepreneurial team members in a team that operates like a start-up, with the advantage of being supported by a highly successful company.

Meaningful work you’ll contribute:

  • Work on our CLI, API, and various microservices. All written in Go.
  • Assist in managing cloud infrastructure (GCP & Kubernetes).
  • Write integrations for the Relay product (see for reference).
  • Assist in the planning, development, and deployment of new features that will delight our customers.
  • Implement monitoring and instrumentation for a high degree of observability.
  • Contribute to open-source software across the cloud-native ecosystem.

Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet:

  • Experience programming in Go or other backend languages
  • Strong experience with modern application development workflows
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containers
  • Experience with any major cloud infrastructure platform (AWS, GCP, and/or Azure)
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience

Bonus, but not required (shout about it in your application if you have experience):

  • Previous exposure to application instrumentation (metrics and/or tracing) as well as open-source web frameworks and clients
  • Experience working with open-source projects

We are hiring at various experience levels and we’re particularly interested in having a diverse team with a broad set of skills and viewpoints. If this seems like your dream job, but you’re not sure if you qualify, apply anyway!

Please note, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
