Microsoft is looking for a Software Engineer in the Platforms team of Azure for Operators to work on building Kubernetes based platform services for 5G workloads.

In this role you will work on a cloud native platform used for deploying high-performance telco applications in many tier 1 and smaller network operators around the world. The platform brings together several best-of-breed open source projects such as Consul, Etcd, Istio, Envoy, MongoDB, Prometheus, Grafana, and EFK, and adds security, observability, scalability, and tooling to create a robust telco grade platform. You will be responsible for integrating, enhancing, and contributing to open source projects, as well as building platform microservices used by 5G Network Functions.


  • Architecting and implementing resilient, high-performance applications and tools from scratch
  • Integrating open-source projects and features into our cloud native platform while deeply understanding performance, usability, security, and resiliency implications
  • Interact with and contribute to several open-source projects in the Cloud Native Compute Foundation (CNCF) domain
  • Play a lead role in architecting the future of our platform for both on-prem and for Azure cloud environments

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial software development
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field
  • Experience in building, shipping, and operating reliable, distributed systems software
  • Ability to engage in site-reliability engineering practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Consul, Etcd, or Istio projects
  • Experience developing or extending Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) frameworks such as Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, AWS Lambda, Heroku
  • Deep knowledge of, and experience with computer networking including aspects of DNS, IP Tables, L3/L4/L7 Proxy, Load Balancing, and TLS
  • Excellent C/C++ or Go programming skills and strong OOD knowledge
  • Active contributor to any CNCF project
  • Advanced technical degree (MS/PhD) is a plus
