What you'll do

We're looking for an experienced software architect to join our team as a Principal Engineer. You'll collaborate closely with our CEO, Principal Engineer and Head of Product to design, architect and deliver performant, scalable and flexible web application code that solves complex user problems and business challenges at scale.

As a senior technical lead on a small team with flat hierarchy, you'll play a leading role in designing our technology stack across front end, back end and mobile and play an integral part in brainstorming and planning overall product and technology strategy. You'll work across our portfolio of products and platforms and design and implement APIs, data stores, user interfaces, web applications, and mobile apps. You'll build websites, web exensions, PWAs, mobile apps, platforms and infrastructure.

As a small team, we tackle fundamental, pervasive consumer problems at scale. Our success formula is to keep a laser focus on the user and provide solutions that ease their pain points and enable our users to increase their efficiency and achieve their goals. We're agnostic to platform, industry, or specific solutions - our goal is to enable and encourage value creation for our target constituents in the sphere of e-commerce.

About you

  • Software development experience and proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Kotlin, Python, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, Go, or C++.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming and design patterns, data structures, asynchronous programming, and concepts relating to time and space efficiency (e.g. Big-O notation).
  • Web application development experience (proficient in both frontend and backend).
  • Strong aptitude and desire to learn new programming languages, databases, frameworks, SDKs, APIs, etc.
  • Experience relating to one or more of the following disciplines: distributed/parallel systems, information retrieval, machine learning, mobile development, or natural language processing.
  • Experience with one or more of the following databases: Elasticsearch, MongoDB, MySQL/MariaDB, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working using one or more of the following web application platforms: React, Vue.js, Ember.js or AngularJS.
  • Frontend experience using: HTML, CSS, FlexBox, SASS, Webpack, ES6, etc.
  • Familiarity with concepts and techniques related to writing single page apps, progressive web apps, and RESTful web service APIs.
  • Testing experience, including unit tests and integration/functional tests.
  • Experience working in a functional programming setting, especially functional reactive programming.
  • Experience with AWS (EC2, SQS, SES, etc), Docker, Kubernetes, Git, Node.js, Nginx, GNU/Linux, etc.
  • You're proactive, hands-on, energetic, collaborative, results-driven, and thrives on solving real-world problems.
