Architect Overview

uShip’s architects work with agile teams, solving challenging problems in the logistics e-commerce space. We are looking for an architect to help lead and create our next wave of products and architectural changes. Ideal candidate believes in a pragmatic approach, is creative, but able to embrace elegant simplicity in both code and infrastructure. You’ll be building the foundation that enables us to empower the logistics landscape and help customers all over the world. 

Our Stack

  • Languages: Javascript, Node, Typescript, C#, Python
  • Our Architecture: An in-progress move from a C# monolithic application into a microservice/micro-frontend architecture built in AWS, using lambdas, Cloudflare Workers, and server-side rendered single-page applications using React
  • AWS Cloud: Lambda, EKS, ECS, EC2, DynamoDb, AuroraDb, Kinesis, SNS, SQS, Redshift, API Gateway, Cloudformation, Cloudfront, S3, IAM, Sagemaker, Event Bridge
  • Frameworks: React, Serverless Framework, Terraform, Kubernetes

Job Responsibilites

  • Hands on architecting AWS IaaS and PaaS solutions, including governance, networks, security, identity, compute, storage, DR, HA, IaC, and Devops/SRE practices
  • Have a domain driven design approach to break out problems into smaller pieces based on business needs
  • Assist teams in generating new solutions, designs, architectures, and patterns relevant to problems they are tackling, particularly those  in the cloud
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, patterns, and practices that our organization might benefit from exploring, particularly as they pertain to the cloud
  • Be a senior technical resource and serve as a role model for development teams
  • Ensure that technical leads pragmatically use the best examples of patterns, practices, and architectural decisions
  • Advocate a test first approach to writing software
  • Participate thoughtfully in uShip's strong code review culture and have the humility to learn
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ultimately help our teams build the right thing the right way

Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years designing/building a variety of architectures
  • 8-10+ years working in an object oriented languages, Nodejs, and Python
  • 3-5+ years working with RESTful APIs or GraphQL 
  • 2-4+ years architecting cloud infrastructure, thinking with a “cloud first” approach in AWS
  • 2-4+ years experience in designing approaches for data, both SQL and NOSQL
  • 2+ years experience with Kubernetes
  • AWS Professional Solutions Architect and/or Professional Devops Engineer Certification are a plus
