ABOUT THE ROLE
A person who will be happy, fulfilled, and successful in this role and as a remote team member at Nathan James is someone who values life and identity outside of work.
You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of transportation, logistics and order fulfillment for Nathan James. While our supply chain continues to grow and become more complex, you will be leading the division to provide flexibility, service and low costs for both inbound and outbound shipments. You will have ample opportunity to research creative solutions as well as carve out your own passion projects relating to logistics.
Deep knowledge of working with freight forwarders, carriers and a variety of transportation methods is a prerequisite. We are looking for someone to make an immediate impact on our current transportation network and provide clear direction during both normal and uncertain times. You should already have relationships with multiple nationwide carriers and local carriers.
You will also be managing the order fulfillment group, experience overseeing order fulfillment and understanding the EDI flow for sales orders is important.
During training, you’ll be expected to be proactive in your process and learn quickly. Once fully up-to-speed (2-3 months), you’ll be managing and leading the Transportation group that imports ~120 TEUs per month. You’ll also be overseeing our Order Fulfillment group that is responsible for shipping out ~60,000 cases per month via small parcel, LTL and TL. While volumes will continue to increase, the complexity of order types, networks and shipping methods will also provide challenges that will require extensive knowledge and an eagerness to rapidly implement new processes that will save on our logistics costs.

We’re looking for someone who has extensive experience in optimizing and implementing solutions to the ever changing problems involved with handling the transportation of our products from our international production facilities to end consumers in the US. You know how to manage and lead a team to execute your vision of how to best support other divisions within Nathan James, who are ultimately supporting our customers. You should be a decisive individual who is tuned into the industry and able to intuitively predict future challenges based on today’s news.
You love problem solving and finding solutions to increase flexibility within our supply chain while continually reducing costs. This division has the potential for extraordinary growth as we continue to provide direct-to-consumer options and expand our product catalog to support multi-continental production. On a granular level we’re looking for:
- 2+ years of experience in a Director level role
- 4+ years of experience overseeing Logistics
- Experience in international transportation, customs, importation/exportation and transcontinental transportation/dispatching/coordination
- Experience in building the Direct-to-Consumer logistics strategy, having set up accounts and negotiated competitive rates with UPS/Fedex and local carriers.
- Experience building first-mile and last-mile strategies with different carriers.
- Experience managing Order Fulfillment and good understanding of the EDI and/or API flow of sales orders from order placing to invoicing.
- Someone who can compound the work of their team by making processes simpler
For this role we do require that your normal workday has at least 4 hours overlap with the Montreal workday (currently UTC-5) without impinging on your personal/family life.
This is a remote role, since we are a remote company! You’re free to work where you work best, anywhere in the world: home office, coworking space, or coffee shops. That hinges on effective writing, self-discipline, and comfort with open communication.
