Job description

Harver is one of Europe and Amsterdam’s top scale-up companies. We are looking forward to continued growth in 2021 and need Senior Software Engineers to help form a new development team responsible for creating and delivering a new addition to our product suite.

At Harver, as a Senior Engineer you will have three key areas of responsibility:

  • You and your team will create, deploy and manage a SaaS software used by millions of people globally.
  • You will practice all facets of good software development: user experience, performance, scalability, security, maintainability etc.
  • You will be engaged in the process of making software. You will be inspired by methodologies such as Lean Development and Extreme Programming.

Your impact

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be an integral part of a focused team of 3-5 software engineers together with QA, Devops and UX specialists. Software teams at Harver independently own domain services within our product-suite and are responsible for their development, maintenance, releases and integration.

While familiarity with our core technology stack (Node, React, Typescript, Postgres, Mongo, AWS) is a bonus, we’re looking for not just great coders, but great software engineers who are focused on delivering great products and inspiring those around them to do so too.

You'll work with our engineering principles:

  • Simple Design. Build up system complexity through frequent simple steps. Simplicity before generality.
  • Behavior Driven Development. The process of developing software collaboratively driven by specification.
  • Continuous Delivery. Creating a momentum of delivery through incremental feedback cycles and updates.
  • Non-solo programming. Working collaboratively and as a true team.
  • Understanding Production. Understanding how your software works in the real-world in terms of both technical operation and user experience.

These five principles are derived from Extreme Programming; we also eschew Scrum in favor of more Kanban and Lean styles of working. These are all concepts should you have some experience of but also desire a deeper understanding.

Harver’s culture

Our broader company values at Harver also describe our company and engineering culture:

  • Dare to jump. We give you and your team trust and autonomy. You have the power to make the right decisions.
  • Act one step ahead. We continually improve and innovate with our product and technology
  • Land on the right side of history. We manage and process the data we collect responsibly and ethically. We are proactive in preventing discrimination.
  • Make it a journey to remember. Harver is a true scale-up and, as it grows, we want you to enjoy it; accepting new challenges, meeting new faces and growing personally

Who are you?

  • The points in this post about responsibilities, engineering practices and culture should resonate with you and excite you.
  • You want to work in a collaborative and productive environment.
  • You are a continual learner and stay up to date with technology
  • You may be disillusioned by sprints and story points and are seeking liberation; another way

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive salary + bonus opportunity
  • 24 days of vacation allowance
  • Commuting allowance
  • Pension plan
  • Employee stock appreciation program
  • Annual personal development budget
