Job description

Kilter is a full-service branding studio focused on amplifying and elevating brands with a positive social impact. Our clientele ranges from nonprofits, to startups, to cultural and educational institutions. We’re looking for an experienced Brand Designer on a temp to perm basis to create thoughtful, original brands and campaigns that make a meaningful, measurable difference for our clients.

This role reports directly to the Creative Director and Director of Strategy, and works collaboratively with other staff members and freelancers.

Responsibilities
— Translate concepts & ideas from the Creative Director and brand positioning goals & strategic considerations from the Director of Strategy into fully realized design solutions for print, digital, and environmental applications
— Craft innovative and unexpected identity systems and brand applications
— Execute fresh creative work within existing design systems
— Work collaboratively with other team members and freelancers
— Apply a strategic and conceptual lens to your design process
— See ideas through the creative process, from initial concept to final sign-off
— Effectively manage your own time and efforts in order to adhere to project schedules
— Prepare files for production, and manage the work of printers, web developers, animators, and other third party vendors as needed to oversee the production process
— Explain design rationale in a clear and coherent fashion, build compelling presentation decks, and present work eloquently to colleagues and clients
— Take ownership of the design process. If something is unclear, ask questions; if you encounter a problem, suggest solutions.

Requirements
— BFA or MFA in Graphic Design or equivalent from an accredited college or university
— 3+ years of relevant design experience
— Experience in developing brand systems
— Proficiency with Adobe CC, Figma, MailChimp, and Google Workspace Apps
— Critical and conceptual thinking skills
— Strong skills in typography and layout
— Precision and thorough follow-through with all design files
— A desire to investigate and create inspiring concepts
— Communicates clearly and professionally with your team and your clients
— Works to improve everyday, and welcome feedback from others
— Quick communication & responses during basic working hours (9–5 PST)
— Commitment to creating impactful work for cause-based organizations

Nice to Have
— Experience with front-end web design — HTML/CSS
— Proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, and/or Blender
— Strong illustration skills
— Proficiency with basic animation & motion graphics and/or video editing
— Ability/interest to grow into copywriting
