Promoted.ai is hiring a customer-facing Technical Product Manager (TPM) and Data Scientist to lead and maintain our AI system customer integrations in search, discovery, and native ads. You will work closely with our customers’ engineers and analysts to ensure marketplace search, discovery, and native ads are always dramatically better with Promoted. The ideal candidate loves helping engineers, Jupyter notebooks, Athena, R or Pandas, and spreadsheets, and has some experience with engineering norms from big tech firms (Google, Meta, Amazon). You love writing and publishing technical documentation about ML systems. Management consulting or other quantitative consulting service experience is a big plus. This is a great role for quants who want to get closer to AI engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize exploratory data analysis to triage engineering actions and provide leads for debugging.
  • Write and publish technical documentation about our systems, product features, and for customer-specific communications.
  • Build strong communication and rapport with customers, product teams, and engineers to understand system expectations and identify potential problems.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Promoted’s engineering systems and quickly interpret our metrics in the context of customer products.
  • Collaborate directly with customers to configure Promoted systems, compose new objective functions, and evaluate experiment outcomes, including project and integration management.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries, demonstrating good judgment and building trust with accurate and timely responses. Based on your deep customer understanding, advise our executive and engineering team on which product features we should add next.
  • Thrive in multitasking and context-switching environments, especially with technical conversations conducted asynchronously by Slack and email.
  • Support customers with varying technical skills in understanding reports and metrics.
  • Work with data quality engineers to identify data sources and reporting interfaces that enhance job performance and customer understanding.
  • Carefully assess data quality to make informed decisions on resource allocation and improvement efforts.
  • Clearly state assumptions for explorations and analyses, fostering transparency and accuracy.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Excellent technical writer.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in SQL with the ability to work across different dialects.
  • Proficiency in using data frames for analysis.
  • Strong proficiency with spreadsheets
  • Pragmatic and evidence based approach to data visualization
  • Willingness to learn and apply automation and orchestration to existing projects.
  • Demonstrated focus on data-driven analysis and problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in research, such as a PhD in a technical field or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex systems or similar technical problem-solving roles, especially in search, discovery, recommendation systems, and performance advertising.
  • Full-stack engineering experience or prior collaboration with widely scoped teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate quantitative nuances to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to changes in tooling and technology, particularly in AI and machine learning.
